Artist Statement:
I have always loved and been influenced by classical themes in art. My ancestry is Italian, Dutch, and Celtic, and many of the gods, goddesses, and mythology appear in my work. My work has developed out of a love for mythology and desire to express long-held traditions in a uniquely personal style. Blending impressionistic brushstrokes with dreamlike imagery, I endeavor to create a dark world of beauty and angst....

'Shall I begin like David Copperfield? 'I am born, I grew up...''-- Louis, Interview with a Vampire, Anne Rice
Childhood in suburban Atlanta was, well, like suburbia anywhere, I guess, but for a kid who is somewhat a loner with an active imagination, rainy days drawing and painting were far more engaging than the same re-runs on afternoon television. When I was very young, before I could read text on my own, my mother gave me big picture books full of colorful illustrations, and I began to copy from those. I was in high school before deciding to make art a full-time interest.
'Do you know cupids are pagan?'-- Ghost, Wormwood, Poppy Z. Brite
Classical painting has always been a favorite of mine. Even after completing an Associate's Degree in Graphic Design--and having worked for the most part in printing and publishing for several years--while living in Florida I returned to university and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art.
'All the faces, all the voices blurred...'--The Cure, 'Charlotte Sometimes', Pornography
I was diagnosed bi-polar when I was living and working in Florida. Life away from home brought new stresses and circumstances and things eventually drew to a head. The ups and downs are easier to live with, and work with, when you know what's happening, and I have learned to use the so-called manic or depressive 'episodes' in both art and theatre. There is no 'agenda' for my art, let us just say that when I have the need to paint, to create, I do it, and the content may be anything from angels to landscapes to some exotic dream sequence. I don't plan it, I just let it happen |
