Artist Statement:
Discovery of the Desert
Botanical Garden in Phoenix,
Arizona in the past two years
has been truly a life saver
for me. Having been diagnosed
with fibromyalgia,
osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel,
and various other
myalgias/tendonitis conditions
in 2000, I became extremely
depressed and concerned about
what my future would hold.
These conditions affected me
to the point that I could no
longer hold down a regular job
nor even a part time job! So
I went from being a vibrant
city mover & shaker as an
urban planner in a fast
growing region of the desert
southwest to a person who
could essentially do nothing.
Quite a mental shock!!!

Two years ago, upon
encouragement from a friend, I
began visiting the Desert
Botanical Garden and painting
small plein air watercolors
and oil paintings. I quickly
found that, while painting I
experienced little to no pain.
While the pain would return
upon finishing painting it
still worked better than any
of the pain medications
prescribed by doctors. After
a time I concluded that this
is a form of meditation for
me.

Please enjoy my paintings and
keep in mind that they are a
joyous representation of how
one CAN overcome debilitating
pain....
