Artist Statement:
Daedalus encounters the New World.
Ever since the heydays of kindergardenhood in Washington DC, I have taken different ideas to another level of meaning and implementation and, fabricated new things for my enlightenment and that of others. I vividly recall molding battletanks from candy and creating bamboo ladders for the besiegers of my sand fortress on the beach. Enthralled by the mystery of Stonehenge, I created a sun dial for a villa using natural resources that lured in tourists from the highway. I also remember creating a board game based on my favorite videogame for my classmates.
Carrying this childhood lust for exploration and experimentation into my teenage years in Portugal, I focused on developing and perfecting my own artistic sensibilities with use of different media. At the age of 18 I had a sell-out one-man exhibition in Portugal and received nationwide newspaper coverage. I won an International Baccalaureate Art competition based on the theme “Reflections on Chinese Art” and showcased my art work in the Tate Gallery, which was later auctioned-off for charity. I graduated with honors and founded ARTrageous!, aiming for more solidarity amongst artists and art buyers worldwide and recognition of aspiring artists. As ...
