Artist Statement for Todor Mirchev
|
|
|
Todor Mirchev paints Christian icons according to the Orthodox canon in traditional technique - egg tempera on wood and gold foil.
Iconographer , painter restorer
Born: August 1953, Sliven city, Bulgaria 1965 by now lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria
Education: 1967 – 1971 – graduates the High School of Applied Arts ,Sofia ; Work experience: 1973 – 1977 works as a painter restorer with the National Institute for Cultural Memorials, Sofia. He has participated in the restoration of objects and buildings in Coprivshtica and has restored buildings such as the Rojen Monastery, the church “St. Arcangel Michael” in Arbanasi, the National Theatre in Sofia; 1978- 1989 – plays bass guitar with a few bands, in Bulgaria and throughout Europe and works as a painter self-dependent.
1996 paints the icons for the iconostasis of the oldest church in Bulgaria - /IV/ - the rotunda “St. George” in Sofia; 1997 paints the icons for the iconostasis in Paisii Hilendarsky`s cellin the Atonian Monastery; 1998 participates in a group exhibition, Sofia; 1999 participates in a group exhibition, Plovdiv; 2001 participates in a group exhibition, Sofia; 2003 paints the icons for the new church “St. Petka” in Petrova niva, Stranja; A member of the “Free space” group since 2004, 2004 participate in an exhibition of the “Free space” group of fine arts, Sofia.
2005 paints the icons for the “Birth of Mary” chapel in Haskovo.
2006 Participates in an exhibition with the art group “Free Space” in The Parliament.
Restores the icons from the iconostasis of the St. George church in Uzundjovo.
2007 Paints new icons for the iconostasis of the St. George church in Uzundjovo, Bulgaria.
