Artist Statement:
Tom Baril was born in Connecticut in 1952. In 1980 he received a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. While still a student at Visual Arts, he began working as Robert Mapplethorpe’s printer. His body of work can be viewed at tombaril.net
Baril has since been credited for developing the lush quality of the late photographer’s black & white prints. He was soon recognized as a master printer and other artists and galleries sought his print making skills.
