Artist Statement for Thomas Bauer

All of these images are made up of select areas of the human form. For best results, make sure that you click each to enlarge.

My work deals with breaking things down (usually the human body) and rebuilding them in a way that accentuates an inherent beauty while making the subject part of a greater whole. But while the subject is changed into something bigger than its self, it still exists on its own in the whole.

The "bodysculpt" series has evolved from years of trial and error until it all came together one day and it hit me that this series is what I had been trying to find within myself. These are the images that I have been trying to produce ever since my days at the Columbus Collage of Art and Design. My degree focused on photography, but my interests in drawing and painting would not allow me to only produce the traditional photographs that worked so well for others. Back then I often found myself trying to do things in a very non-traditional manner. Quite often this meant "the wrong way" and ended in disaster. My Ideas were good, but the traditional techniques failed me. Since then my techniques have evolved and I find it easier to produce the images racing through my head more closely.

These images mean different things to different people, but there is always a sense of beauty there. It has to be there. The true beauty of the human form can not be hidden.

This is only a small sampling of the "bodysculpt" series and my body of work (I also have a beautiful abstract Clouds series). If you would like to see more, or would like me to use you in one of my works, please feel free to contact me.

I own the rights to all of the images on this page, so please don't try to use them for something that you aren't allowed to. Thanks.
