Artist Statement:
Artist Tony Mendoza was born in New York to Cuban parents, but raised in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. This guy's work is so vibrant and colorful! He intimately captures the daily life of Little Havana with style and best of all, a great sense of humor. I Cuban.com Magazine - Three Guys from Miami - November 2003
I commenced my artistic endeavors by painting the colorful and historic homes of my childhood neighborhood of Little Havana, and bringing my art to the public at Cultural Fridays on Calle Ocho. My unique and whimsical renderings led to many commissions of house portraits throughout South Florida and eventually the rest of the country. Inspired by my activity in Little Havana I have created several collections of humorous vignettes depicting life and commerce in this vibrant section of Miami. These paintings show the love I have for the city and its inhabitants with their quirky and colorful lifestyles and customs.
Tony Mendoza creates images and vignettes of Little Havana, perpetuating in his acrylics the Cuban heritage in a primitive-expressionistic style full of vibrant color. --Vilma E. Muises, Florida Exclusive Magazine April 2004
My style has been described as Primitive Expressionist...
