Artist Statement:
I have come to painting by a circuitous route having worked for over 25 years as a sculptor. In 2000, I took up watercolor and collage as my creative outlets.
In recent work, I am creating Journies. In the Terra Series I am using imaginary mapping and symbols to focus on exploration. I have done ten of the pieces to date and intend to continue adding definition to this work.
In Sacred Words Imperfect, I am employing two primary techniques—air brush and watercolor pours. I use airbrush to create and array of angles criss-crossing the jumble of letters creating words and mystery.
In Technicolor Cows and the Opus Series, I use a “watercolor pour”-- permitting a spontaneous reaction to the color as it is set down on paper. Using watercolor crayons along with negative painting draws the subject off of the paper as I work on the painting. Using the watercolor crayons on top of a pour, the colors layer on top of one another in an ever changing the dimension. | Your Personal Biography |
Tupper Malone, a third generation Oregonian, has been practicing art for over 30 years. Her early work as a sculptor concentrated on abstract human and animal form. Tupper now concentrates on transparent watercolor, watercolor crayon and collage stating “Watercolor and collage allow a spontaneous freedom and experimentation that is vital to my artistic growth.”
A member of Watercolor Society of Oregon, Oregon Artist Society, Northwest Watercolor Society, and National Watercolor Society, work has been shown both locally and nationally.
