Artist Statement:
I work in stained glass
because I'm mesmerized by the
brilliance of a boldly colored
window, transfixed by the glow
of the glass and the subtle
changes in an image as the
light shifts throughout the
day. I am especially drawn to,
and inspired by, the stained
glass of the 12th and 13th
centuries.
My work reflects the
simplicity of the early
cathedral windows that inspire
it. Like the medieval artists,
I use limited shading,
stressing instead the graphic
of the trace line. And like
the early glass painters, most
of my surface painting is done
in brown and black. I prefer
to highlight my images against
panels of strongly colored
glass, often red and blue.
Decorative borders and
backgrounds are as important
as the image.
