Artist Statement:
Subjectivity is one of those things that exists in and defines everything that we do. But to be conscious of it and to use it as the focal point of any kind of art,is always an interesting idea. And that’s the way my work deals with basically. In many different ways, Iam pre-occupied with the unique relationship between forms in the painting and between the painting as a whole, and the spectator.
And the notion that meaning is not inherent in the object but the product of chance encounters.And, although it may seem like I am reading too much into things, it is this same pre-occupation
that makes, and insist on approaching each painting individually, with no connection to previous works.
To me, one of the other most striking aspects towards work, is my attitude towards formalism.I do not believe in ethnic art although my decision to paint in a ‘non-ethnic’ way,"I say it is not at all conscious." since ethnic art always runs the risk of stereotyping and
over-simplifying. I believe strongly in works that have a certain universal appeal, which I believe is made possible by formalistic approach. ...
