Artist Statement:
My work on painting try to
traces a relationship between
photographic images in a
familiar álbum and the
tradition of amassing ex-votos
in “miracle rooms” in Brazil.
By defining sacred or profane
images, it also reflects a
type of enlightment that can
reveal traces of divinity. I
try to compare the interior of
“miracle rooms” to a darkroom
where negative images are
formed. I was inspired by the
Latin-American Fantastic
Realism, that shows influence
of Surrealism, particularly
those of Gorky and Rothko. In
my images I try to define a
visual narrative elements, and
it shows my interest of
exploring the flatness of the
surface painted....
