Artist Statement for Viliam Sulik

V i l i a m S u l i k earned his Master of Arts in Art Teaching in Nitra, Slovak Republic (2005).
He has worked in various mediums such as polystyrene, plastic, wood, metal and plaster in 3D. He is also wellknown for installations, performances, happenings, videos and different art projects involving youth and local artists in Nitra, Slovak Republic. Viliam Sulik exhibited in both private and public galleries. His works are included in private collections in Slovak Republic and Germany.

Recently his strong focus has been on painting. As an admirer of German and Austrian expressionits, he is trying to follow similar line exploring a world in which reality coexists with abstraction. By showing the interconnection of artistic expression and gesture each of us may experience a common feeling and be enriched with another dimension.

In his recent series Viliam Sulik attempts to accent fields of everyday life. ´I´m concerned with how body, spirit and instincts are assumed in contemporary culture and want to maintain greater dialogue around these systems. Central to my work is our experience of the world, perception and understandings of it. Working with acrylic on canvas I borrow from my own life and environment to build subtle narratives.´
