Map Based Works 8/28/08
My recent works-on-paper (2001-2008) include several ongoing series of drawings on road maps: Compass Rose (flowers and other plant life overtaking road maps), Waterworks (road maps in which all the roads are flooded) and Sprawl (road maps overrun by fungi). Each of these works begins with an out-of-date, somewhat tattered road map from my car’s glove compartment.
