Artist Statement for Chelsea Schermerhorn

My photography has a much lower quality on here as I had to reduce it to upload. My pictures are taken with a 7 megapixel digital camera. As a photographer, I see the world through a camera lens. I never would have believed it when I was younger, but as I become older I realize how fleeting time actually is. In part, I want my photography to preserve those moments of peace, relaxation, and seclusion when the lighting, timing, and location is just perfect. I also, however, want my photography to make people think. A concept, a convention - I want people to see the photograph and think..."Wow, Is that what she meant?" In the Art appreciation class I'm taking, one of the outstanding themes throughout art history has been to challenge convention. Maybe, my photography might challenge convention to the point of changing the world.
