I continue to grow and morph as an artist as I age and mature. Art occurs in the moment and I respond to what I see and experience in the present with my past superimposed over it. Some things that have influenced my art are jazz, wine tasting, travel, and quantum physics. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Armed with a physics degree from Purdue University and a short stint in the US Army, William Chill landed in Indianapolis, IN where he became a teller of short stories of wit and wisdom. Having drawn and painted from an early age, it was through art that he most effectively chronicled his ideas. He eventually enrolled at Indiana University's Herron School of Art and earned a BFA in painting with Highest Distinction.
Right after art school, he began to explore the decaying industrial landscapes of his native northeast Ohio - mostly because the subjects represented to him something that was real and authentic. His paintings were exhibited in galleries throughout the Midwest and purchased by private collectors. In 2004, William was commissioned by United Airlines to execute paintings that were used in United's annual promotional calender and international in-flight menus.
As he progressed down the path of realism, his works became more than just depictions of places, the subjects themselves began to evolve as metaphors - they began to represent something more, something deeper.
It wasn't long until the artist began to blend a physics education with his artistic abilities to create colorful abstractions that explored the contemplative qualities of each. Searching for these parallels became his driving force. "My paintings explore the relationship between the empirical and the mystical. I see abstractions and color fields as meditations on experience. If the paintings are real, then the experience was real - the paintings are evidence."
William Chill, lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife and two children. Among his interests which fuel his work are travel, wine tasting, and jazz music. |
