Artist Statement for William Boune

"For me Art is the act of reinterpreting the world around us into new forms. Borrowing from all we see to imagine these forms, the goal is to produce something that is unlike objects viewed before, when originality trumps technique. The trick is to find the balance point between creation and destruction, chaos and order, the point of risk where it is determined whether this object is to be called art or a simply a failed project. I define this fine line of decision making, where just enough information is provided to achieve this right result as,
Balance Point Optimalism."
William Bouné

I find sources of inspiration in basic archetypal forms, such as...

The Arch, "A basic form in nature and of strength in man made structures, it enables shared support, access and passage".

Crystal Forms, "The influence of the crystal is seen in many of humanities creations, they surround us as we venture through life, the shape of a many faceted roof, the beveled glass window, in the cut crystal vase, the wonderful sculpted art".
The Radius and Curve, "Provides a means of softening transitions, suggesting , purpose, smoothness and sensuality, for me it is a feminine form".

The Circle and Sphere, "The circle is strongest form in nature, second only to the sphere, more than strength alone, these forms represent the circle of life, birth, continuity and death".
The Mountain Form and the Triangle, "A primal symbol of strength, power, growth and change, up-thrust and eventual erosive demise"
Plant Life, " The textures and forms of vegetation suggest the diversity and complexity of nature while instilling a sense of beauty, order and simplicity".

The Spiral, early humans gazed into the heavens and saw stars in the form of spiral nebulae and placed representations on animal skins and on cave walls, in her hand the swirl of the seed pod provoked creation of textile and jewelry, the spiral form inspired occult and spiritual symbols, modern man finds his genetic information organized in a double helix - intimations of greater unseen forces, movement, expansion and order - "Above all forms the spiral speaks to me."

"Producing art is like a meditation, or perhaps it is a meditation, which allows me to slow down and snatch glimpses of the basic ingredients, the stuff from which we all emerge, as I shape, sand, smooth and burnish, bring to form and finish, the materials speak of water, of stone and bone, wood; movement, torrents of energy into form and fulfillment!".
William Bouné
