Artist Statement for Peter Worsley

I paint people – usually as portraits, sometimes as small groups, or occasionaly as large crowds.

Portraits are very special. They are a way to memorialize important life stages, such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, new businesses, or a promotion. They are a form of self-expression. A portrait is for posterity.

In addition, painted portraits are great as decorative images. Someone you do not know may be a conversation piece for your next party, or even a way to gain instant new family members.

Many of my non-commissioned portraits are of people I have seen, photographed, but never really got to know. But each was chosen because they had something special that caught my interest.

I love to watch people. My wife and I enjoy sitting near a bustling walkway, frequently with a cup or glass of something, and viewing the world passing by – always with my camera close at hand.

I find them many of them fun to paint. Please enjoy them with me by exploring my paintings here online and many others at my website:

http://www.peterworsley.com

But if you want to see them “in the flesh,” or to dig out some of my older paintings from my storage area, you are invited to visit my Santa Barbara, California, Art Studio and Private Gallery. Go to my website to make an appointment.

To know more about me, my approach to painting portraits, my palette, and my thoughts in general, please visit my website.
