Welcome to Warren Kornberg's Portfolio.
Like the premature accounts of Mark Twain’s death, reports of the demise of traditional SILVER GELATIN PHOTOGRAPHY have been vastly exaggerated. There aren’t that many of us left, but photographers addicted to the traditions of the 20th century masters are still around. We make photographs the old way—with film, and with cameras that don’t do our thinking for us. And we print them archivally in darkrooms. As a colleague quips: “The world is analogue; why digitize it?”
I have been working this way for more than 30 years, exclusively for my own pleasure and that of some friends who have seen fit to hang my photographs in their homes. (All the photographs offered here have been printed in the past two years or can be printed to order.)
Over the years, I have used only two kinds of camera: determinedly non-automatic 35mm SLRs and a 1930s 4X5 Pre-Anniversary Speed Graphic (Remember the press cameras in old movies!) mounted as a field camera.
