Painting, dancing and the Celtic myth have nested in me during my childhood in Bretagne for where my parents immigrated to Israel.
My 1st theme upon returning to painting after over 25 years of absence is the passion and motion in dancing; this revival series is called eMotions. I was always fascinated by the human body, not only because of its beauty and complexity but also because of the intriguing body language that is unconsciously dominant, maybe even more than verbal expression.
Dancers behind the scenes reflect real-life feelings behind the glory. I've painted snap shots of the tedious, yet still colorful moments of rehearsal and pausing in-between, where the figures are pensive and passionate at the same time, each in its own solitude, yet spatially united by abstract patches of color.
I enjoy revealing textures and details by using many layers. Layering gives me the feeling of unveiling the obscured - de-layering both the dancers behind the scenes and my own creation process.
It is a never ending research for me. This is why I paint from sketches and pictures that I am obsessively shooting; I need to get back to the figures time and again ...
