Artist Statement for Jerry Younkin

|
"The love of nature and art are intertwined in my impressionistic oil paintings. Vibrant colors and thick paint, often applied with a painting knife, help me to capture the excitement of the moment."
When painting, Jerry likes to focus on one object to be the "star" and other components the supporting cast. Jerry is inspired when painting on location, despite the distraction of: inquisitive cows, insects in her paints, up her jeans, and even an occasional bear ambling through the trees. She finds pleine-air painting creates a freshness that is hard to achieve in the studio. Her goal is to share this invigorating experience with those who view her work. She hopes, to some degree, they will be able to feel the warmth of a sunny day, hear the stream and enjoy the beauty of God's creation with her.
Jerry views art education as a continual and never-ending quest. Her search for knowledge began in the 1960s with art classes from Kansas University in her native state. Her work has evolved as a result of many fine instructors and artists who have shared their knowledge through numerous classes, workshops and personal friendships. She now tries, as an instructor, to pass this joy of art on to her students.
