Artist Statement for Michael Zoller

Michael P. Zoller's Artist's Statement

I believe that art is the most powerful means of communication.
It is global, restricted by no language barrier. It possesses the
power to communicate thoughts and ideas that can not be
expressed effectively any other way. Art reflects and affects
the predominating mood of society.
I have always had a passion for painting. As a child
growing up close to New York City, there were many times
my parents would take me to art museums and galleries.
Although I had an appreciation for the abilities and techniques
of the old masters, I found myself drawn more to the vibrancy
of impressionists, expressionists, and contemporary artists.
I sensed a certain zeal and passion the painters showed
through their artwork.
My father being in show business was acquainted with several
artists and I enjoyed spending time in their studios watching them work.
My enthusiasm led me to spend many Saturdays as a child taking art
lessons and after school art clubs. Richard Budelis who is a Fine Arts
Professor at Pratt Institute was a major influence during my late teens.
There were a couple of summers before collage I was
able to study painting and figure drawing at Otis Art Institute
in Los Angeles. Two particular instructors Al Monneoni, and Charles White,
liked my enthusiasm , willingness to learn, and " free spirited style."
They also where a great encouragement and influence for me.
During my collage years at University of the Ozarks I experimented
with different styles and techniques. Lyle Ward the head instructor of the
Fine Art department allowed students to discover there own personal styles.
Since then I've had opportunities to study under and paint alongside
artists that share the same enthusiasm and love of visual art.
That passion, boldness, and vibrancy in paintings that I
loved as a child I love even more today, and is a major part of what
inspires me to paint in the style and with the enthusiasm
that I do.
I am particularly drawn to a special quality of vibrancy, color,
depth and texture that can be obtained with oils and
today's acrylics I also feel that a work of art should be made of
such material and skill that under normal conditions it should last
throughout the course of time without fading cracking peeling etc...
I enjoy working with oil and acrylic paint , they give me the results
I like, and the final product will be able to be enjoyed for generations.
It is my intention to keep experimenting, learning, teaching, growing,
and having a lot of fun painting.
I hope others enjoy and are inspired by my artwork as much
as I have been by what has inspired me

Sincerely, Michael P. Zoller
