Artists Describing Their Art:

Stefan Van Der Ende - Beatriz Cunha - The creation of my pieces starts with the observation of the complex relations established between phenomena as diverse as nature's fertility, man made objects or art history. It's an intimate work in search of integrating conflicting forces, ultimately leading to the transmutation of the parts in to a transcending whole. The shape contains in it self the memory of the evolution from one condition to another in a process of transformation that is at the same time natural, personal and cultural. ...

Jane Jaskevich - Jane Jaskevich Artist Statement Jaskevich is a carver of dreams in stone. Her mythical figures borrow elements from ancient cultures. Jane creates figures by combining various materials such as different stones, wood and found objects. She pays homage to the stonesO Greco-Roman roots. Her recent series deals with the incomplete figure and is entitled OThe Silhouette Series O. Partial heads that can be read as a silhouette are combined with full bodies. These sculptures suggest multiple ideas; ancient ruin, contemporary dreams, and flat vs 3D. 2012 brought exhibitions in the NYC Affordable Art Fair and her sculptures being published in Contemporary Sculptors by Kracun/ McFadden. Numerous Southeast galleries represent her. Jane received her BFA from University of Georgia and Masters in Art from Florida State with additional studies in Pietrasanta, Italy. Her public collections include an outdoor sculpture in a Michigan church and three sculptures for NationsBank Headquarters in Tampa. Jane has two sculptures in the permanent collection of the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida. Her large-scale bronze sculptures are the focal point for the Tampa GTE Data Center. . ...

Lou Lalli - The shaping and use of stone is a vital part of the human endeavor. The fashioning of tools and implements by stone age peoples, the votive Venus figures of the Neolithic period, cycladic sculpture of the eighth millennium BC, classical sculpture of Greece and Egypt and all the sculpture to the present indicates that stone sculpture is intrinsic to human expression. Sculpting in stone directly links me to the people of the past. The subject and ideas I choose are derived from the past thus strengthening that link. The resolutions of the technical problems are the same that sculptors in the past confronted and solved. Although modern tools and implements facilitate my work I am still doing what all sculptors and stone carvers have done in the past; chipping, abrading and polishing the stone to release the form contained therein. My ideas and subjects are borrowed from antiquity with each piece telling a story. Antiquity provides a wealth of resources for my work; warriors, the myths, Venus figures, beasts, demigods and shaman/priests are the subjects I appropriate. In executing an idea, the importance of light and shadow, through the use of negative space is a primary concern in the ...

Gregory Gobla - Whether two or three dimensional, the pieces are gauging the separation and distance between WHAT we are from WHO we are. As with any other form of expression intuition dictates style, color, form and subject matter. My believe my work to be both personally meaningful and externally meaningless at the same time....

Tim Guider - Tims latest Protest Mural. To donate, search for - Tim Guider Artist Gofundme - to help fund more of Our Original Heroes Murals. Tim has collaborated with Aboriginal artist Frank Wright on this mural, and they want to create more of these murals in Sydney and in other cities and towns across Australia. Born with a natural talent for art, at age 22 years Tim decided to pursue a career as an artist. He studied at the National Art School, Sydney and received an Artists Development Grant from the Australia Council. He now has 45 years of professional artistic development to bring to his work. Since the mid 1980s his murals, canvas paintings and sculpture have attracted an enormous amount of television and press coverage both nationally and globally. A few image examples of Tims work are included in this portfolio which clearly show the wide range of materials and techniques this artist has mastered. He includes sculpture effects in murals. He has painted his sculptures and even uses internal illumination as well as mechanical movement in sculpture. Much of Tims artwork has a theme of multicultural Australia and our Aboriginal heritage. I have known Tim for over 30 years. I was ...

Don Dougan - My work comprises both abstracted and figurative imagery executed in a variety of mixed materials, with stone being the predominate medium. Other materials used (usually in conjunction with stone) include foundry cast metals, carved and joined wood, cast and fabricated plastics, cold-worked and kiln-formed glass, cast and carved hydraulic cements, cast/formed paper, welded/fabricated metals, gilding, and found/assembled objects. The more abstracted imagery is worked in pedestal pieces, large freestanding sculptures, and in wall-mounted relief sculptures. The figurative lip series is usually presented in wall-mounted reliefs, deep shadowbox framing, and occasionally as either a pedestal piece or a large freestanding work. The most recently begun series of work comprises pedestal-sized pieces using the imagery of the ship or the boat hull. Each series or each type of work allows me to express aspects of the human condition - the more abstracted works tend to reveal a more universal emotional/rational characterization of subject matter, the lip series tends to allow sensuality, humor, and more visceral expressions, while the ship series delves into personal/cultural memories and emotional journeys. Terry Mollo - ARTISTS STATEMENT Stone is my most important medium. The attributes of stone motivate me to seek and appreciate the beauty that has evolved with time and natures forces. Whether marble, travertine, alabaster, agate, onyx, each piece has its own story to tell. Its hues, striations, translucence, brilliance- and faults- have history and mystery to unlock. While carving I listen to the stone and carve only enough to find, and unleash, its organic lines and its aEURoevoice.aEUR Im inspired by the point at which natures organic form meets the inorganic. I concentrate on the force and tension created between the two, and search for the line that is formed by their union. In my sculpture, organic and inorganic form often conjure human emotion, human condition. Natures sea forms, shells and waves, suggest human form, depth, fluidity, texture, tone. Botanicals are sensuous with leaves and flowers that appear muscled and fleshy. Stems of flowers, such as orchids or lilies, stand tall, appear happy or courageous and proud, while other stems are viney or gnarled and appear desperate or defeated. All are similar to the ways in which the anatomy and musculature of the human body reflect its deepest feelings and emotion. Terry ...
