"Degas & Pissarro, Alchemy of an Encounter"
1999-06-17 until 1999-08-22
Musee du Quebec
Quebec City, ,
CA Canada
This exhibition, for which the Musée du Québec
holds exclusive North American rights, offers
visitors an opportunity to discover extremely
rare works by two major 19th-century artists,
Edgar Degas (1834-1917) and Camille Pissarro
(1830-1903).
Degas & Pissarro, Alchemy of an Encounter
constitutes a unique opportunity for discovering
another facet of the talent of these two great
artists who, of all Impressionists, were those
most interested in printmaking.
Their very personal approach to printmaking
revealed their Impressionist leanings, tending to
translate reality through its visual impact rather
portraying it in minute detail. Flouting traditional
processes, they participated in the printmaking
revival marking the late 19th century.
The exhibition includes 90 works (etchings,
lithographs and monotypes) the majority (76) of
which come from a private Swiss collection, whose
quality and coherence are extraordinary.
