Florida's Art in State Buildings Program has 15 new public art projects underway with
submission deadlines July-September. Budgets: $2,000-$176,000. Committees are
searching for a wide variety of art ranging from existing 2-D artwork to large-scale indoor and/or
outdoor commissioned works that may incorporate movement, murals neon, water elements, or
earth designs. Deadlines: July-September.
Florida's Art in State Buildings Program, established in 1979 by the Florida Legislature, requires that up to one-half of one percent of the costs for
constructing new state buildings be set aside to purchase/commission artwork for permanent display as part of the State of Florida's permanent art
collection. This program is administered by the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, working with the Department of Management
Services, the State University System, State agencies, and individual artists.
All professional artists that meet Florida Art in State Buildings Program criteria are eligible to apply. Out of state artists are also eligible to submit materials
for consideration by selection committees. Projects are advertised in the Call for Artists, which includes instructions for submission and is distributed on
an as needed basis. Applicants are required to submit a separate entry for each project, and to apply only to projects for which their work is appropriate. To
receive the Call for Artists, or for any additional information, please contact Lee Modica, at the Division of Cultural Affairs, at 850/487-2980, Fax
850/922-5259, or e-mail lmodica@mail.dos.state.fl.us.
