"Rosemary Laing: Melbourne-Osaka Exchange project"
1999-08-21 until 1999-10-03
Australian Center for Contemporary Art
Melbourne, ,
AU Australia
This major exhibition of recent work by Sydney artist Rosemary Laing will be
presented at ACCA following its showing at the National Museum of Art in Osaka,
Japan. It represents the first solo exhibition of an Australian artist at that renowned
institution and is the second part of an exchange project between this museum
and the Monash University Gallery. Curated by Natalie King, the exhibition brings
together two major bodies of Laings photographic work plus a new video
installation. Greenwork and Brownwork deal with panoramic vistas and the interface
between landscape and technology. Spin is an aerobatic video installation that
positions the viewer in the pilot-passenger seat. As part of the development of this
project, Laing has recently undertaken research at NASA, the Dryden Flight
Research Center, Los Angeles and the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
