An outgrowth of the Red River Sculpture Society’s Hall of Fame, it was chartered as a separate non-profit corporation in June of 1998. The purpose of the organization is to recognize talent and contributions to the Visual Artists over a four-state region.
Additionally, it has as its goal, the building of a major Fine Arts Museum in Shreveport to house the Visual Arts Hall of Fame and to make available art collections for public viewing.
The first Awards Dinner of the newly chartered Hall of Fame was celebrated on September 30th, 1998 at East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport. Over 200 people attended the dinner and were treated to a major art exhibit of all Hall of Fame members.
Jean Sartor, Painter, one of the pioneer artists in Shreveport, exhibited internationally, was a founding member of almost every local and regional art institution, served on many boards including Meadows Museum and the Barnwell Art Center.
Clementine Hunter, deceased primitive painter, Melrose Plantation, internationally recognized for her depictions of life on plantations, died January 1, 1988 living over 100 years in the Cane River country.
Minor Vinck, Sculptor in glass, Shreveport resident, born 3rd generation Belgium glass worker in Texarkana, internationally recognized copper wheel engraving artist whose lifetime work is found from Los Angeles to New York to Moscow.
Neil Johnson, Photographer, life-long resident of Shreveport, regularly published photographs in Louisiana Life and Shreveport Magazine, free-lance writer and nationally known author of many books, conceived and helped found the Red River hot air balloon festival.
AWARDS DINNER will honor these individuals on September 29th at East Ridge Country Club.
Reservations required . . . Individual tickets $35. Sponsor tables of eight – $400.
Presentations to honorees will include sterling silver medallions and framed certificates.
An art exhibition, with cash bar, will begin at 6:30 PM, showing the four honorees work as well as artwork by previous honorees. The special Awards Dinner, served at 7:15 PM, will preceed the presentation of awards.
Valuable Door prizes include a special artwork by each honoree as well as many other items.
