"Modern Kyoto Art Circle and Western Culture - Revolutionaried in Nihonga"
1999-08-06 until 1999-09-12
National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto
Kyoto, ,
JP Japan
Nihonga has been searching for a way to be a form of
modern painting since the Meiji period through contact with Western art
and the friction which was caused thereafter. It took the direction of
Westernization and it was also a mark of experiment to solve the issues of
materials, techniques, form and individualism. The exhibition tries to verify such
experiments that the Kyoto art circle had undertaken
in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods, focusing on avant-garde paintings.
