People in anonymous, pulsating street scenes of the
worldís greatest cities are the subject of Beat
Streuli's camera work. Single photographs are
projected onto walls in large-format, slow-motion
sequences. Shots of a face, a gesture, a look fade
into each other as if in calmly rhythmic respiration
without a narrative. At times the panorama divides
into several pictures. The artist's detached
observation is not directed towards crowds but
rather towards mostly young individuals and their
sense of nomadic suspension. The public space of the
street is divested of specific cultural features; it is
assimilated into a global choreography.
