The 1999 FNB Vita Art Prize exhibition is currently on at the Sandton Civic
Gallery until September 11, 1999. The exhibition, which beams with creative
energy and a colourful mix of different media, features work by this year's
six finalists.
The six finalists whose works are on exhibition are: Kendell Geers, Robert
Hodgins, Isaac Nkosinathi Khanyile, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Jo Ractliffe and
Minette Vari. Jo Ractliffe's video installation work titled, Love, Death,
Sacrifice and so Forth, won the R20 000 FNB Vita Art Prize.
The FNB Vita Art Prize exhibition is one of its kind in South Africa.
Members of the public are invited to nominate artists for this prestigious
annual prize. By allowing the general public to nominate the artists, the
exhibition taps on an imperative part of development - which is the dialogue
between art and its audiences.
Nomination forms for the FNB Vita Art Prize 2000 have already been
distributed around participating national and commercial art galleries all
over South Africa. Artists who have exhibited in a recognised gallery
between January and December 1999 are eligible for public nominations.
The Sandton Civic Gallery opens from 09h30 - 16h30: Mondays - Friday and
10h00 - 15h00 on Saturdays.
