Cab Gallery is an arts project that uses a working London Cab as an
exhibition space. Devised and
curated by art dealer Paul E Stolper and cab driver Jason Brown, Cab
Gallery will be an ongoing project where the exterior and interior of the
cab will become a showcase for invited London artists.
Artists
Participants include Peter Liversidge (1999 John Moores nominee), Bob and
Roberta Smith, Steve Bunn (winner of The Battersea Outdoor Sculpture Prize
1999; winner of Madame Tussauds Prize, RCA Best Graduate 1999), Abigail
Cohen, Jemima Stehli, Colin Lowe and Roddy Thomson, Sarah Staton and Ray
Richardson.
Exhibits
Abigail Cohen has reworked Robert de Niro's famous speech from 'Taxi
Driver', Bob and Roberta Smith's 'TAXY' (sic) sign and Peter Liversidge's
'ABSENTA.com' painting will be displayed on the outside of the cab.
Passengers can flick through Liversidge's 'Book of Proposals' during their
ride or get into a
prisoner's uniform that will be lying on the back seat. Jemima Stehli's
beautiful self-portraits will appear in place of advertising on the tip-up
seats. Documentation will be made available on exhibits as and when they
appear.
Paul and Jason will continue to work and collaborate with young
contemporary artists, developing new exhibits for the Cab Gallery as the
project evolves.
How Cab Gallery Works
Cab Gallery will work on two levels: it will be an anonymous body of
artworks that travels day and night within the cab to be spotted or not by
the unsuspecting passenger. It will also be used by artists to create
unique pieces for their own projects and / or private views.
