An experienced investment and financial manager has been appointed to the Council of the National Gallery of
Australia.
Mr Robert Ferguson is Chairman of BT Funds Management and he has a strong economic and business
background.
Mr Ferguson will bring valuable managerial skills and knowledge to the Gallery Council,' Federal Minister for the
Arts, Peter McGauran, said.
Mr Ferguson has held extensive positions in the corporate sector including:
Director of the Australian Davos Connection;
Director, Australian Rural Leadership Program;
Director, Westfield Holdings Ltd and six other Westfield companies;
Director, and is currently Deputy Chairman, of The Sydney Institute;
Director of the St James Ethics Centre; and
special consultant to the Law Reform Commission's Review of Collective Investments.
I am sure Mr Fergusons business expertise and corporate knowledge and networks, together with his personal
interest in art, will be of great value to the Gallery, Mr McGauran said.
The National Gallery has built a formidable reputation. It is now at a point where, after reviewing and adding to
its collection, it is looking to the future.
It recently introduced a new temporary exhibition gallery and has placed its collection online.
Council will have a strong role to play over the next few years, as the Gallery organises a significant loan of
Aboriginal art for display in Europe, along with exhibitions to coincide with the Olympics and the Centenary of
Federation, Mr McGauran said.
