"Kilengi: African Art from the Bareiss Collection"
1999-09-26 until 2000-01-09
Neuberger Museum of Art
Purchase, NY,
USA United States of America
Selections from an outstanding African Art collection assembled by Walter Bareiss expand an
understanding of African art by presenting object types and styles from peoples virtually unknown
to Westerners only five years ago. Works from the Baali, Bira, Gogo, Ha, Sukuma, Wanyatura, and
Zigua complement the Museum's holdings from West African cultures. The exhibition is
accompanied by a catalog that includes an essay by the curator, University of Iowa Professor
Christopher D. Roy, who underscores Africa's most active areas of cultural change.
