THE HAGUE (The Netherlands) On Thursday the 7th of October, the Argentinean ambassador in the Netherlands, Alberto L. Davarede, will open the Buenos Diaz exhibition in The Hague. The exhibition will host a selection of about twenty paintings by the prominent Argentinean artist Raul Diaz. The organization of this event will be hosted by NEXUS modern art, a new company founded by the widely acclaimed 19/20th century art connoisseur Ivo Bouwman.
Bouwman, a well known figure in Holland, e.g. to his many television appearances in a popular Arts & Antiques program, first came across Raul Diaz paintings on the Artistas Argentinos exhibition in Amsterdam, 1997. Now, two years later, the painting he bought back then, Equilibrista (1996, 105 x 112,5 cm), features in the exhibition Buenos Diaz .
Raul Diaz has been exhibiting in his native Argentina since 1984 and has had solo exhibitions in Miami, New York and Amsterdam. An impressive record of over fifty group exhibitions complement this achievement. Currently his works are part of numerous collections in such varied places as Israel, Italy, France, Brazil, the United States and Argentina.
Raul Diaz was born in 1952 in Cordoba, Argentina, where he continues to live and create his art. Although Diaz studied architecture, he could not dismiss the overwhelming call within himself to be a painter. Self-taught as such, Diaz has emerged as one of the most prominent artists in Argentina.
NEXUS modern art is taking Ivo Bouwman into a new direction. Art-Dealership Ivo Bouwman has been a successful company for over twenty-five years, dealing mainly in late 19th century impressionist paintings and early 20th century (deceased) artists. Only last week it sold the famous painting Portrait of Augusta Preitinger , by Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam for Hfl 2.6 million. NEXUS modern art, which started out as a hobby of Bouwman s, currently features work by Andy Warhol, Rob Scholte, Sam Drukker, Carlo Maria Mariani, Julio Larraz and many more.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 8 until 24 October 1999 between 13.00 and 17.00 hours and / or by (telephone) appointment.
