A seminal exhibtion of photographs Woman/Goddess, curated by art critic Gayatri sinha and featuring the work of 27 leading photographers is currently touring major Indian cities. Woman /Goddess, which has been presented by Multiple Action Research Group with support from Ford Foundation covers fifty years of modern Indian photography. In different sections on cinema, politics, asceticism and healing,etc. it covers aspects of the complex relationship between the resurgent goddess,the deified women -- like politicians Indira Gandhi or Jayalalitha, or filmstars, and ordinary women.In the process, the exhibition covers a significant slice of contemporary Indian life.

The photographers represented include Radhu Rai, Dayanita singh, Henri Cartier Bresson, Frank Horvat, Ram Rahman, Pablo Bartholomew etc. The exhibition is supported by a catalogue which examines art historical and critical aspects of the issue, with articles by Radhu Rai, Dr Jyotindra Jain,Dr Madhu Khanna and Gayatri sinha.
