Following the success of the Wellcome Trust’s sciart awards in 1997 and 1998, a
new consortium comprising the Arts Council of England, the British Council,
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Scottish Arts Council and the Wellcome
Trust has been formed to continue the Sciart initiative and to extend its remit.
The consortium is also sponsored by the National Endowment for Science,
Technology and the Arts (NESTA).

The sciart consortium is now inviting applications for awards from partnerships ofartists and scientists who will develop and produce interdisciplinary projects that draw on and benefit from contemporary practice in these respective disciplines.
Projects may involve artists inspired by scientific research, scientists interested in the creation of new forms of expression or a combination of both. The finished work should enhance the public understanding of science and of art.
Projects that are principally for educational purposes are not eligible.
Categories of award
There are two categories for applications and it is envisaged that there will be approximately 12 awards in total:
ten research and development grants of up to £10 000 each;
two production grants of up to £50 000 each.
