Sanford Smith's 14th annual MODERNISM: A Century of Art &
Design will celebrate the end of a millennium with a new beginning. For the run of
the MODERNISM show, November 11-14 at the Park Avenue Armory, visitors
will have the opportunity to bid on items from the MODERNISM dealers'
collections in an online auction. Bids can be made from the computers located at
the show as well as from any computer with internet access, affording an
international audience a chance to participate in the excitement of MODERNISM.
The selected items will be on view for three weeks prior to the show's opening at
http://www.icon20.com/, a new 20th Century Design resource, magazine, gallery,
and auction house. Bidding will begin on Wednesday, November 10th at 10am
and will end at 3pm on Sunday, November 14, the closing day of the show. Five
percent of the sale proceeds will benefit the Children's Defense Fund, the
foremost child advocacy organization in the country. We believe that the
combination of MODERNISM with an internet auction will set the stage for future
greatness in the art and antiques show business, said Sanford Smith. Heading
ICON20 is Usha Subramaniam, former assistant vice-president in the 20th
Century Decorative Arts Department of Christie's and the founder of the 20th
