1999-11-30 until 2000-01-25
JHB Civic Gallery
Johannesburg, ,
ZA South Africa
The JHB Civic Gallery, in conjunction with the MTN Art Institute and
Ericsson, is delighted to be hosting an exhibition by 70 South African
artists.
Ericsson generously donated a variety of cell phone pouches of various
shapes, sizes and colours. Each artist was given two cell phone pouches as a
starting point for a work of art. The result is a fantastic variety of
different works, ranging from paintings to videos to lithographs to
performance art and sculpture.
Some of the seventy artists participating include Robin Rhode, Hanneke
Benade, Walter Oltmann, Rookeya Gardee, Naeem Bismilla, Antoinette Murdoch,
Amos Letsolao and Senzeni Marasela.
Dave Beasley, chairman of the MTN ART Institute, will open the exhibition.
The opening night will include a performance by Steven Cohen and Elu.
Catalogues of the exhibition are available, thanks to the generous
sponsorship of the MTN Art Institute and Ericsson
This is a wonderful opportunity for some special end of year shopping and a
healthy dose of creative culture.
