"N. M. BREWKA WINS 1999 CWA WRITING COMPETITION"

N. M. Brewka of Beverly, Massachusetts is the winner of the 5th Annual
International CWA Writing Competition, an annual event of Community
Writers Association, a national nonprofit organization based in Newport,
Rhode Island.
Brewka, a former journalist and award-winning poet and playwright, won
first place in the short story division with Live Theater. She
receives a cash prize of $500 plus publication on the Community Writers
Association website and in the upcoming CWA
Journal, an international literary magazine to be produced in 2000.
Rebeccah Steele of Swansea, Massachusetts won second place while 1998
finalist Frank Reynolds of Twain Harte, California took third prize this
year.
Sponsored by Barnes and Noble of Warwick, Rhode Island, the competition
attracted submissions from as far away as Great Britain and Japan.
Judges for the event were novelist Mark Ellis and literary agent Esmond
Harmsworth.
