The rehearsal space of Beyond the Proscenium Productions, 2022 Del Paso Blvd.
(upstairs) in the Uptown Arts District, will be transformed to a gallery
featuring the work of two internationally known artists and two local artists
for the holiday season. Villa Art Ann Foot is the name of the show that
will be exhibited during the month of December. The featured artists
are Esteban Villa, founding member of the RCAF (Royal Chicano Air Force),
Louie the Foot Gonzalez, RCAF member, Art Luna and Ann Tracy.
Villa is a noted muralist, painter, poet, and musician as well as being a
retired art professor at CSUS. He continues to teach at his studio.
Gonzalez is noted for his printmaking as well as concrete poetry-where words
make up part of the image of the artwork. Both artists have exhibited across
the country and internationally.
Luna, who has been a photographer for the over 25 years, has been exhibited
at Stanford University, and has just recently begun to show his work again
locally at the annual Phoenix show, Galleria Posada and in Davis. He has also
collaborated on different work with Tom Witt and Tracy. Luna has also curated
shows for Luna's Cafe, the Center for Contemporary Art, other local galleries
and various special exhibits for state offices.
BPP's artistic director Tracy is a digital and video artist, as well as a
writer. Her digital artwork has been exhibited in galleries in Maui, San
Francisco and Oakland, as well as numerous mail-art shows around the U.S.
Locally her work has been shown at the annual Phoenix show.
The artists have agreed to donate a percentage of their sales to Beyond the
Proscenium, a nonprofit theatre company that has been going beyond the
traditional in Sacramento since 1994. There will also be wearable art
T-shirts designed by Tracy on sale to benefit BPP.
