"Tara Donovan: Hemicycle series"
1999-12-15 until 2000-01-16
Corcoran
Washington, DC,
USA United States of America
In a new self-titled exhibition of work by Corcoran
College of Art and Design alumna Tara Donovan, the
accumulation and re-configuration of ordinary things
transforms the familiar. Donovan's work relies on her
ability to reveal the aesthetic qualities in materials
that are often overlooked.
For this large-scale,
site-specific installation in the Corcoran's Hemicycle Gallery, the artist
constructs a field of fibrous material in response to the architectural
particulars of the space. Her repetitive and almost obsessive processes
such as wrapping, stacking, bundling and unraveling challenge notions of
boundaries, coherent form, and objectivity.
