Axis is an arts charity in the UK that hosts the national register of contemporary visual artists living/working in Britain. There are currently over 3,000 artists on the register, each with a full CV, and over 10,000 images of their work.
The Axis stores the information on a database - the Axis database. They provide the information about the artists to anyone who might want to contact them for commissions, exhibitions or study. They are funded by the Arts Councils of England, Scotland and Wales, and seven Arts Boards on a non-profit basis.
The Axis database is available at sites around the UK, over the phone, on the web at www.axisartists.org.uk and also on CD ROM. The Axis database on CD ROM contains over 9,000 images of artwork by over 2,700 artists and craftspeople.
The Axis database on CD ROM is a portable, searchable database of professional contemporary visual artists and makers currently working/living in Britain. Artists range from known names like Rachel Whiteread, David Mach, Michael Craig Martin and Ana Maria Pacheco to newly established and emerging artists. It is an ideal research tool for anyone interested in or wanting to commission, exhibit or collaborate with British artists.
Arts Council Collection Acquisitions 1989-1995 is a collection of important new works by British artists purchased by the Arts Council of England during 1989-1995. This digital collection of artworks features artists such as Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Antony Gormley and Gillian Ayres.
