"Karel Appel: Form Becomes Vibration"

Five works on paper by Karel Appel a member of Cobra (a post-World War II group of artists from
Copenhange, Brussels and Amsterdam) will be on view in the Works on Paper
Study Room, located in the First Floor Galleries.
In Appel s 1970s work he
continued to use his favored childlike motifs masks, faces, animals but he
adopted a new manner of expression using thick parallel strokes of vivid,
contrasting colors. They are represented in the five works at the Carlos:
Whirling Head, Big Head Coming Down, Tibetan Bird, See Me Running Again
and Flying Fish.
