"The Jubilee of the Kantsalet"
2000-03-18 until 2000-08-20
Rijksmuseum
Amsterdam, ,
NL Netherlands
The Rijksmuseum's lace collection is one of the largest in the
Netherlands. The museum has operated an active acquisition policy
since 1920, and now has over 2400 items. The strength of the
collection derives largely from important loans and gifts. Thus in 1966
the museum received a long-term loan from the Royal Collections
which comprised a great deal of lace belonging to Queens Sophie,
Emma and Wilhelmina.
One of the principal donors was and is 'Het
Kantsalet', a society founded in 1925. The exhibition in 2000 will mark
the 75th anniversary of this generous institution and present 75 of the
finest examples from this remarkable collection.
