"BORROMINI. ARCHITECT IN BAROQUE ROME"
2000-04-12 until 2000-05-25
Albertina
Vienna, ,
AT Austria
From 12 April - 25 June 2000 the Albertina is presenting the work of the Roman Baroque
architect Francesco Borromini. The exhibition presents a survey of the architecture by
Rome's most important Baroque architect. His imaginative and expressive buildings were to
have immense influence on the architecture of succeeding generations. Almost all of
Borromini's drawings are housed in the Albertina.
Borromini's importance in the history of architecture is illustrated for the first time in this
exhibition and set in the context of the cultural and intellectual history of 17th century
Rome.
The exhibition has been developed around about two hundred original drawings by the
architect. These unique sources tell us about the artistic processes behind his architecture
and offer a fascinating insight into the drafting and planning methods which went into
Borromini's most important works.
