In the year 2000, which marks the transition from the 20th to the 21st century, we are commemorating ATM's 10th anniversary with a special presentation focusing on
fashion. Fashion has been described as the wind of the age, as it is an art form that is perpetually transforming itself as it reflects its time. The theme of ATM's event is
-Two Centuries Moved by Fashion.-
* This special event comprises two parts: Exhibition and Fashion Shows
Hanae Mori Exhibition: Meeting of the East and the West
Fashion is a pioneering, adventurous art form whose essence is perpetually changing as it aspires toward beauty. The history of
Japanese fashion, moreover, whose long tradition of the kimono gave it a distinct apparel style, is the story of the meeting between
and fusion of two cultures - the West and the East.
ATM's current exhibition highlights the works of Hanae Mori, who has intently pursued her creative activities as a pioneer in the
Japanese fashion world. She has carried out her design activities internationally, having taken the Western tradition of clothing and
producing clothes with the sensibilities of both an Oriental person and a woman. A look at her works will give an insight into the 20th
century, which can be characterized as a period when the East and West truly did meet.
The 180 works in the exhibition, which have been divided into 11 groups, are displayed against lighting panels. Also to be shown are
photographs and videos of Hanae Mori's stage and movie costumes, among other materials, giving us a good look back on her career
so far.

The 21st century will be an age in which the importance of national borders will increasingly lessen in the sphere of cultural activities, with people adopting a global
perspective in their outlook and thought. The format of fashion, as well, will no longer follow the traditional categories of city or country, but will move along global lines,
with the representative maisons of each country employing designers of different nationalities as a matter of course.
The current project has invited prominent designers from Europe, the United States, Asia, and Japan to show their works in the style of a fashion show. Get a close look at
the upcoming 21st century through the works of the fashion trailblazers of today.
