"XXXHOLY - Heart of India"
2000-03-17 until 2000-04-14
Museum for Decorative Arts
Hamburg, ,
DE Germany
During the last three years the German photographer Peter
Bialobrzeski flew seven times to India in search of mystique
and his personal interpretation of the Indian soul. Far from
claiming to understand the complex systems of eastern religions
his images are nonetheless energetic and vibrant. They reflect
the curiosity of the spiritual search and a strong
interest in Indias holy sites through a truthful representation
of beauty. On the other hand the viewer has developed an
analytical distance (Distanz) which transforms Indias holy
sites into a mystical stage with sometimes pathetic moments.
Peter Bialobrzeskis ten large format photographs leave the
viewer in a state of undecisiveness: Torn between magnetism
and ironic distance the viewer has to decide which side appeals
most.
