The JHB Civic Gallery is delighted to be hosting a group exhibition by a
number of young South African artists who have challenged the medium and
techniques of watercolour.
Artists participating include Merryn Singer, Joni Brenner, Stefan Erasmus,
Monica Madeira, Flip Hattingh, Thomasin Dewhurst, Robyn Sassen, Michelle
Kriek and Tayrn Millar. Merryn Singer takes the traditional landscape and
paints it in blood. Joni Brenner turns intimate portraits into large-scale
washes of colour. Stefan Erasmus and Flip Hattingh use the watercolours as
elements of their artists' books while Monica Madeira examines the intimate
landscapes of cells and DNA structures in large-scale works.
This exhibition is part of the Standard Bank Watercolour Festival 2000.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 17 May at 6:00pm. Please join us for
drinks.
Tours of the exhibition and the Johannesburg Civic Theatre are available on
request. School groups and cultural groups are welcome to join us for free
workshops at the gallery. These need to be booked at least a week in
advance. Minimum size is 6 people and maximum group size is 15 people
This exhibition continues the mission of the JHB Civic Gallery to support
and encourage young and emerging South African artists.
