"Free Online Education Resource for Secondary School Students and their Teachers"
2000-05-25 until 0000-00-00
Digital Art Resource for Education (DARE)
London, , UK United Kingdom

On 25 May 2000 inIVA and Middlesex University launched the Digital Art Resource for Education (DARE), a free online education resource for secondary school students and their teachers which explores contemporary visual art in a digital format. By highlighting relevant contemporary themes of play, space and place and translation, and exploring connections between artists’ works and contemporary issues, this resource encourages an investigation of the social, political, cultural and economic functions of art. DARE questions assumptions about who can be an artist, reflects the diversity of our artistic heritage and provides young people with a greater understanding of the culture industry. The website encourages a questioning, risk-taking and playful approach to its subject, emphasising the links between research, making, teaching and learning. DARE is currently the only digital initiative, in the field of contemporary arts, seeking to engage an education audience in this way.

The Institute of International Visual Arts (inIVA) is a contemporary visual arts organisation which promotes international artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. inIVA's education projects form a central and dynamic role within the organisation, running alongside – rather than as an addition to – our other activities.

Middlesex University's School of Lifelong Learning and Education (LLE) is a major centre for innovative initial teacher-training programmes at undergraduate and post graduate level, with a network of partnership schools throughout and beyond the North London area. It has a nationally renowned educational research record, particularly in the areas of art and design & technology education. The Centre for Electronic Arts (CEA) is a specialist creative computing department in the School of Art, Design and Performing Arts, which runs a number of internationally acclaimed post-graduate courses in electronic media and digital design.
