"Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999
"
2000-06-04 until 2000-08-27
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Los Angeles, CA,
USA
For more than 35 years, Edward Ruscha has been
not only an influential voice in postwar American
painting, but also one of contemporary arts most
significant graphic artists. From his first prints and
artists books made in the early 1960s to his latest
projects, Ruscha has created a body of editioned
work that is uniquely American in both subject and
sensibility. Including work from a host of
international graphics workshops with which the
artist has collaborated, the exhibition presents a
broad range of material that not only shows strong
connections to Ruschas now celebrated painting,
but also evidence his fascination and
experimentation with a myriad of printmaking media.
A key feature of the exhibition is a presentation of
Ruschas complete book projects, a body of work
that is now considered pivotal in the history of
contemporary artists books.
