Jody Mattison is a realist figurative painter from the
Bay Area, culminating her Masters of Fine Art studies
with a graduate show in San Francisco. Jodys works
are a combination of traditional realist and
contemporary techniques, blending the tonality and
detail of classical realism with her own strong
interpretation of life through the contemporary female
gaze.
...The return to narrative and figurative work is an
important moment in that it heralds an acknowledgement
of the importance of the common viewer in the
transformative process of the work of art. [Walnut
Creek] painter Jody Mattison is an excellent example
of an artist who is concerned with the nature of arts
ability to communicate, to engage the viewer in a
discourse of discovery. Using allegory and symbolism
she creates with her work open spaces that welcome and
encourage interpretation. The intimate moment, the
shared humorous glance, the psychological punch of the
work, not to mention the consummate technical skill,
